These are my old unofficial builds of Freeciv for MS Windows using the GTK2 GUI.

Update: I see that this site still gets some visitors, even though the versions here are quite outdated. To make things clear: You really should use the official gtk freeciv for windows instead of these.

Q:CivWorld fails with message that mgwz.dll is missing
A:In the same directory find file zlib1.dll, make a copy of it (ctrl-C & ctrl-V) and rename the copy to 'mgwz.dll'

Q:It crashes for me!
A:I'm sorry to hear that. However, it works for me. Here are some suggestions what to do (in order of preference):
1. Install linux. Linux is the main development platform for Freeciv. You will be able to get support from Freeciv developers. In Windows, you are pretty much on your own.
2. If you run Windows 95/98/ME, upgrade to NT/2000/XP. GTK2 applications tend to be more stable in NT-series of Windows.
3. Check the gimp for Windows FAQ. Most of the recommendations apply to Freeciv GTK2 as well.
4. Compile it from source. Here is some general information about how to do it.
5. If everything else fails, use the native-win32 client.

Q:Where is the installer?
A:There is none. Just download a file from this site, unpack it to a directory of your choice and start by double-clicking on the civ.bat file.

Q:It's slow!
A:Yes, it is. Upgrade your hardware or use the native-win32 client.
